It’s been a long lonely time…
In honor of Death Cab For Cutie being on SNL last night, I have been jamming to the Plans CD today. If you all missed the performance, catch it on bit torrent or check back to this site Tuesday when I will splice the 2 performances together for Chris’s Playlist #3 (yes, it is finally coming back).
Anyway, yeah, it’s been a long time since I posted anything on this here bloggy thing. I have been to Vegas and all over California since then and have many stories to share.
I made the comment to Alyssa the other day, as I sometimes do when it crosses my mind, if she minded not having a big expensive wedding like her sister did. She has always told me no and I am happy we didn’t as well. I must say the smash wedding we had in Vegas was probably the best time of my life. The memories I made that first year, and the memories I continue to add on every year since then pales in comparison to whatever fancy ceremony we could’ve had…
Vegas 2005…Day 2 11:45am
After garnering modest wins the first day then throwing it all away on a machine shuffled table of blackjack, I was in the mood to go after a table where I had the edge. To use the blackjack term (although a bit improperly if you care for semantics), I decided I was gonna go downtown and Wong in and out of tables that were hand shuffled (if you want to know what “wonging it” means, just shoot me an email). After about a hour of patient watching, I found the “home run” table and sat down at first base. Seated across from me was a woman about in her forties with a dwindling stack of green chips. I was enthralled by her “giving me luck” as I played out the basic strategy that I had practice nigthly for the last week. Apparently she was giving me all her luck as she consistently lost every hand she had, while the rest of the table raked in the chips. I knew I was at a winning table but was intrigued that she was losing. I felt sorry for her as I pulled in about $180 in 20mins of played while she gambled away $1500. Let that be a lesson to you kids (and to me): as easily as it can be made, it can also be lost. Side note: If I had been betting the same action as she was I would have made $900. That equates to about $2700/hr. But alas, when you don’t have the bankroll, you don’t have the bankroll and if I went into financial ruin, I’m fairly certain I would have been walking home from Vegas. Not a proposition I enjoy.
At any rate, I played for a little while longer even hitting the $200 dollar mark but I lost 2 double down hands including a doubled split and decided that after that many strong hands lost, it was time to go. I left the table with $140 which couple with what I had left after yesterdays diasterous take, covered my hotel room and a little food. Not bad for 20mins. But more importantly, I had accomplished my goal of paying for the trip. Well, sort of anyway. We still had 2 days for me to make up the gas price (which I hadn’t won yet) or possibly lose the rest of my bankroll. But being that it was a high note, I decided to end the gambling for the night and go back to the hotel room to drink quite heavily…
