Chris’s Playlist #7 3/9/2006
Welcome to the new and improved playlist. I have been planning on expanding the scope of the show, especially since I usually run only once every 2 weeks (so much for twice weekly). Anyway, the first major change is format. I have taken on a technology that hasn’t been used heavily in a long time: Shoutcast Streaming!!!
Listen to Chris’s Playlist #7 by clicking here and selecting open/run
This method should be cross platform though it plays best on Winamp. Using this method requires at least a 350kbps DSL connection. If you have DSL and are unsure then don’t worry, I have the crappiest DSL connection in the known universe and I can still stream this just fine. If you are on dial up then sorry you are outta luck. I am not really running a shoutcast server, rather I am just running on my regular webserver but since I have so much available bandwidth, I figured “what the hell.”
The second major change is additional music. I have now begun to devote an entire cd’s worth of music for each episode of Chris’s Playlist. In addition to getting all of that music, you can also download the cover art as well as get direct links to amazon to purchase the CD. As always, you can stream every single song from your browser and download each song as well.
Click here to go the Chris’s Playlist Website and grab the cover art for episode #7
At any rate, since there is so much more music now, I won’t give snippets on every song but here are some standouts that are definitely worth a listen.
I used to teach drums to the singer in this band. It wild to think of how far he has come musically since I met him. He used to be so heavy into ska when we first met and now listen to him. He is without a doubt, the most talented man I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I know he is gonna go far in his music career. At any rate enjoy Bangarang:

This Foo Fighters song here is a great example of the gems you can find on cd singles and imports. Legend has it that I once paid $40 for a cd that I already owned because it was an import CD with 1 extra song. The legend is true and I have to say that I would do it again in a heartbeat. I guess that makes me somewhat of a music nerd but whatever. Enjoy Foo Fighters:

Last up for the little snippets here is a one of my favorite types of bands, ATONAL. Well, not entirely (you music major types will understand) but just enough to keep them off the radar of the pop friendly musical public. This band in particular reminds me of At The Drive In and Sebadoh mixed together. Both very “indie” sounding groups but with just enough pop to make you think twice. I really repsect groups like this cause I know it’s music I will never be able to do. I am too entrenched in melody to give it up entirely. Anyway, without further ado, enjoy Cursive:

The last bit of business I have to wrap up is the winner of last episodes contest. Congratulations are in order for Wyndi who sucessfully named all the songs, albums, and artists on the mystery playlist. She wins those cds as well as one free song on iTunes. As I stated before, if you didn’t get in the contest this time don’t worry about it. There will be more chances to win. That does it for this edition of Chris’s Playlist. Thanks for listening and as always, keep your volume at 11…
