Random Thought on a Wednesday night..

Behind the scenes update, I added a plugin that allows you to send any post to any number of social bookmarking sites like Digg or Del.icio.us
or you can simply email it to a friend. If you are logged in, it will automatically fill in your info, you just need to put in an email addy to send it to. Cool stuff!!! ANYWAY,

So in case you haven’t seen them, here are some pictures from my weekend in Bakersfield. It was fun to see the family again. I think the last time I visited was, gee I don’t actually remember. I know it was sometime this year. Oh yeah, it was around Jr’s B-day (my older bro, Henry). Here are pictures from that trip.
Anyway, I didn’t realize until Shaun called me that today was Wednesday. I have been holed up in my apartment writing music since I did none of that this weekend (shame on you Chris). I keep thinking that I have a never ending plate of writing to do since I have Dream’s music to finish (Ballad is finished now and hopefully I will finish the closer by Saturday), and I have to finish Montebello HS and Bell Gardens HS exercises for the next season. Seeing as how Bell Gardens is pretty close to Montebello’s playing ability now I will probably be writing their exercise books very similar if not exactly the same. It will save me a ton of time plus it will allow me to actually publish this book and sell it which will be VERY cool. But it doesn’t end there because I have to either revise or write a new cadence for Dream since this year we actually have a parade tune and aren’t just playing show music. Also, I would kinda like to write a new 60 sec (on field warm up) for Dream. I have this rhythm in my head that halfway resembles Martian Mambo and halfway mimics the Glassmen Double Beat exercise from 2005. I just have to make sure that I don’t make it impossible to clean like last year. I really liked the one I wrote last year titled Mud. It was just a timing nightmare. Of course, that seems to be par for the course with me. I can’t write anything straight ahead. As I tell Alyssa, if I write to patterns and straight rhythms I am bored to tears. Truth be told, Vanguard 2005 was one of my favorite drum books (though this past season was a pretty good one too) simply because it was so out there rhythmically while at the same time it maintained a great semblance of groove, if you could only latch on to it for longer than 3 bars. I strive to write like that, only wierder. I would like to be as out there a writer as possible. I want to be so wierd that you can’t help but appreciate it, even if you have no fucking clue what is going on. I think I am on the right track with the stuff I write now, I just need to train a drumline to think in moments of time signature instead of 4 on the floor. Actually, in order to play the old 60 sec well, you need to be able to look at 3/4 time and 4/4 time and realize that through different subdivisions and tempo, they were the exact same thing. Wrap your head around that. Notes and tempo and time are just a means to an end and I make the means as complex as possible in order to make the end as pleasing and strange as possible.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I have obviously spent way too much time on the computer writing music. I haven’t even moblogged in 3 days!!! Well, I will blog a shot of Bell Gardens drumline tomorrow and hopefully write an actual post instead of this crap. Thanks for listening, though.

Oh, and just so you know, I think this idea should be expanded into a whole song. I want to make this my theme song.
