I might have to stop…
reading the LAIST
I normally find it to be a pretty good blog about the happenings in LA and the surrounding areas (orange county mainly) and the writing staff is usually top notch with a decidely “metro” vibe to their stories. Basically, strongly appealing to the 20-30 somethings crowd. However, this recent article sucks major donkey balls…
As a teen and a naive young adult, I used to care about such things. I set myself up to be an outcast type. In my day it was grunge/goth kid and of course I made the situation worse by being a band geek. In those idealistic times of turmoil, it makes a lot of sense and you do think that you are “changing the world” one cultural misunderstanding at a time but lets fucking face it folks, The world is a big place. Do you really think that writing angsty poetry and putting on black eyeliner is changing the world?
Maybe to some, this is my way of “selling out.” I am hanging up the flannel shirt (actually, I would love to have another one but I don’t have time to go searching through goodwill) and only vaguely considering dying my hair red (for the third time in my life). I don’t know what to make of it really but the certainty of the matter is this…
I have way more important things in my life than to pine for the days of being some fucking “Punk” and getting angry about people subjugating “MY” culture. At this point in my life my answer is “WHO GIVES A FUCK!!!!” The funny thing is I wouldn’t go back and redo those times in my life. It was definitely not time wasted. It’s just silly high school bullshit and to see it on this blog just makes me feel like I am reading silly high school bullshit. It’s one thing to have celebrity news sprinkled in with the actual news (seriously, brittney and lindsay stories are REAL news stories here!!!) but to have this blog (which is ordinarily top notch) bring me this shit is just retarded. And even though I always knew that there was some asshole in silverlake writing most of the stories on the site and that personality comes through A LOT in the stories, I was able to forgive it for the fact that it’s a great blog with great information and entertaining stories. Now…hmm…not so much…
