I place my trust inside of you
And I see in your eyes that you trust me too.
We can talk and laugh for a while
You know I would do anything to see you smile.

And life is a thousand miles away

Lets pretend to be alone for a while
You know I would do anything to see you smile

And life is a thousand miles away

Sometimes I’m lost inside you eyes.
And I can’t explain how I feel inside.

It’s good to see you smile/Sometimes I feel lost inside you eyes (sang together)
Let life stay a thousand miles away.

I will state this from the beginning that this song stems from a very personal place and so you won’t hear about it’s origin. With that out of the way I have to say that these are quite possibly the most blatant lyrics in the history of the universe. You can take every single lyric except for one and know it’s literal meaning. The only line that has any depth (very, very little) is “life is a thousand miles away” meaning that when I am with her the outside world doesn’t exsist. It is pretty much just me writing a love song to Alyssa. Cheesy yes, but hey, she really liked it.

As far as recording, probably the first thing that gets drawn to the listeners ear is the piss poor quality of the vocals. Well, in Chris recording land, my hard drive was littered with great songs (literally about 30) but none with any lyrics so this was actually the first song where I attempted to record lyrics. As far as pitch, yeah there are some flubs but overall I don’t think it’s too bad. However, there are tons of phrasing and breathing problems all over the place not to mention, I wasn’t very adept at mixing at the time so the vocal track seems kinda buried in the high end EQ range. The standout of the track to me is the last lyric which I attempted a 3 part harmony to form a maj7th chord. I think it turned out ok. Compositionally, the empahisis of the piece is it’s heavy use of phrases in 3. So many rock and pop songs are just in 4 so I decided to be wierd and write in 3. For the most part it not really noticable but if you listen hard, you can hear it and makes the chorus phrasing wierd. At least, to me.
