I promised I wouldn’t blog about it again but it has been a celebration day for me. So there’s your warning: if you don’t want to read about more weight loss/marathon training/self important crap then please just close your browser window.

I HAVE MADE IT! Well, sort of. I am now at 178 pounds. I started out at 225, my original goal was 185 but about halfway through I thought I should go ahead and make my goal to lose 50 pounds instead of 40. So now here I am after diet and roughly 450 miles logged on a treadmill or the streets, I am now 3 pounds from my goal weight. I have gone from a relaxed fit size 38 jean to a normal 32. My size 34 jeans look baggy on me. I used to always buy extra-large shirts and now they all make me look like a little kid wearing his dad’s clothes. I have doubled the speed of my mile (important because of the marathon I am running in May.) from a 16 minute mile average (jogging and walking over the course of an hour) to a consistent 8 minute mile (running at 7.5mph for 65minutes straight). I can still remember that first night and how hard it was just to finish 4 miles as well as how sore I was the next day. How I had nearly unbearable pain in my shins (possibly developing a mild case of shin splints) and in my knees. I also remember that I had to kick my own ass just to get to the gym the next night to start my routine that I would stick to almost robotically for the next 4 months (and beyond).

In typical fashion, I am halfway proud of my accomplishment and halfway wanting even more. At this point, I sort of don’t even know how to function outside of hardcore diet and running guy. I suppose that’s a good thing since I still plan on running a marathon in May. I know I said I would transition back up to maintenance calorie levels when I hit my weight loss goals (which for the record, I anticipate being at 175 as early as next Tuesday) but like I said earlier I don’t even know how that works.

So in honor of my achievements I went out this evening/morning to Michoacan food stand about a mile from my apartment and bought 2 of the greasiest illegal immigrant carne asada tacos and 2 tall Bud Lights to wash it down with. Today feels good.
