All said and done…
Week one of the final push to the Long Beach marathon went fairly well. Only a couple of hiccups really.
Tonight was my fastest 3 mile run yet. I’m glad the work I have been doing is paying off. I am getting stronger long runs at higher sustainable paces as well as ending them and not feeling totally wiped out and sore. The only “bonking” that occurred this week was on my 18mi run that actually turned into a 16.5 when i got some major stomach cramps that were brought on by dehydration. I probably shouldn’t stay up all night drinking beer and expect to have a fantastic run the next day. I knew it would be a bad run but honestly it wasn’t really all that bad until the end when I got those cramps. The pain more than made up for the otherwise fine run however.
The only other hiccup I would say was some slight calf tightness. After the 1st 10 mile run my left calf tightened up but loosened up by the time I had to run the 12 miler. Then after that one it stayed through the second 10 mile run. I was worried about it enough that I paced the 2nd 10 mile run slower and cut back Friday’s mileage from 6 to 3; smart training moves that will ensure that I am able to handle this run streak for 1 or 2 more weeks. Then lets bring on the taper baby.
