Welcome once again to Chris’s Playlist. Hopefully my decision to move to mp3 streaming didn’t leave everyone in the dust. It’s purely a forward thinking move from my perspective. I am definitely catering to the broadband market but hey, it’s only$15 from yahoo so what’s your excuse? At any rate, doing it this way allows me to put a large amount of music up all at once so then you’ll forgive me for only putting up a playlist episode twice a month. Anyway, enough banter, on with the show.

Courtney Love is a whore!!!! Of course everyone says she is so it must be true. Actually if you chart her media appearances you will be suprised to learned that she is a huge wreck. Wait, did I say suprised? I meant to say not shocked in the least. Her life has been a mess long before Kurt Cobain came into and left the picture. But along the way she has actually graced the world with some (very little) great music. I often find myself harkenening back to the grunge era since there was so much good music. Not to say that everything now is crap, it’s just I hold a special place in my heart for grunge since I grew up with it. It spoke to me at a time when I needed to be spoken to so with that in mind I give you Hole with the song Violet

I read this news just the other day and I was so overjoyed that I blasted the stereo for an afternnon just listening to War All The Time. They only have 2 major releases but I hunger for so much more. They are an extremely great group of musicians that are unfortunately lumped under the monkier of “screamo.” Everytime I listen to them I am treated to such an eclectic and disjointed good time and I find the volume knob creeping higher and higher as I always want more from this band. As I have often said with regards to music, “it’s like wrapping yourself up in a blanket of sound.” Anyway, enjoy Thursday with their song Asleep in the Chapel

I am not entirely immune to the fads. Actually, through listening to Chris’ Playlist, you have probably found that it’s almost exactly opposite. At any rate, the Nu-metal fad was one that I went through in high school and shortly afterward. I went through Korn of course but the list doesn’t stop there. It also includes a band known as Kittie. They were sort of the end point for me as well as the end result for a lot of the Nu Metal bands. They slowly figured out that the way to success was to cater to the pop crowd. Everyone eventually reaches this conclusion when they “sell out.” Even with the music scene being so aggressive, there was still that element of melody. It wasn’t total chaos. And with Kittie, they were able to achieve that melody with a bit of sweetness since they were an all girl band. It’s a beautiful voice that floats atop the madness occuring all around it. And make no mistake: This band can kick some serious ASS!!!! So with that I give you Kittie with What I’ve Always Wanted.
