[Listening to: The Greatest Wonder - Gratitude - Gratitude (4:12)]

Welcome to episdoe 5. Still counting down the days till a lawsuit shows up at my door. Today finds me in an emo mood (Crystal can go ahead and move on right now) and as such I plan putting up two very 80ish sounding “emo” bands. I put in quotes cause, really, who the fuck knows what emo is supposed to mean anyways? It’s as bad as the whole “alternative” debacle of the 90’s. Genres only really serve the record companies and we all know those guys are just a bunch of evil greedy fucking bastards. Oh well, soap box rant over, lets get on with the show

Up first on the chopping block will have me at -10 indie rock points for today but, whatever, I just can’t get enough of these guys. I might just blame it on their inventive yet familiar guitar style. I read in a guitar world interview that the guitarist used to spend a long time tweaking his guitar sounds. Kinda like the style of the rap/metal thing of Korn, he would get a huge bunch of pedals and play around with them until he found the “right sound.” He finally realized that he was spending most of his time messing with sound and not actually writing songs! So he gave it up for one multi-effects pedal (yeah I know, kinda the same thing as before) and never looked back. It’s a great reminder of the K.I.S.S. ideal. Keep It Simple Stupid. Anyway, I am sure you are dying to find out who it is so without further ado…Third Eye Blind.

The next band up for today would be a relatively new band with their first album just being released last summer. They remind me of the typical throwback to the 80’s that is currently going on in the music industry as of late except with the indie rock flavor of course. Not to say that is necessarily a bad thing. I often find myself bobbing my head and tapping my feet while grocery shopping whenever a Tears for Fears song come on the Muzak. Just great melodic music if ask me and that is excatly how I feel about this particular band…Gratitude

Well, once again, our time has come to an end. Thank you all for indulging me in this “emo” filled edition of Chris’s Playlist. Its been fun to examine the music style that broke me out of the mainstream mess and ultimately back to it. Strange how things return full circle that way. Anyway, Crystal, you can come out of hiding and join us again next time. Also, keep reading this blog as I plan great things soon. That does it for now. Until next time, keep your volume at 11…
